Macro Examination is the examination of the samples with naked eye or a certain magnification after they have been etched. During the macro examination, the sample is etched in a longer time comparing with the duration of micro examination.
The following features are examined with macro inspection;
- Cracks in the region studied
- Heat affected zone
- Welding passes
- Measurement of melting and penetration in welded joints
- The geometry of the weld
